How You Can Help in the Fight for Dedicated Funding for Public Transportation

Now is a critical time to educate people in the Greater Philadelphia region about and the state as a whole the importance of public transportation and the need for dedicated funding. And it also the time for us to get names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of people who are ready to contact their State Representatives and Senators and the Governor This is what you can do to help:

  • Join our mailing and email lists so that you will be informed when events are held in your area and when it is time to contact your political officials. Sign up for our newsletter here.

  • Generate public attention for our cause. There are many ways to do this; here is one: Make a large sign in calling for more funds for public transportation and place it in a conspicuous area in your neighborhood or on a major thoroughfare. Get your local newspaper to take a picture of your sign. Another idea is to hand out information and collect names of supporters at public events, such as street fairs or outdoor concerts. Contact us for brochures and hand-outs suitable for these events and advice about how to proceed.

  • Write an article or issue a press release for your local newspaper about the importance of public transportation. We can help you do this. Set up a PTC chapter for your neighborhood.

  • Invite a member of our organization to speak at a local meeting. Contact us. We are eager to make a brief presentation to community and civic associations, churches and synagogues, political meetings, labor union locals, and other groups of all kinds.

  • Contact Governor Rendell and ask him to immediately submit legislation to the General Assembly implementing the ideas found in the report of the Transit Reform Commission.

  • Contact your State Representative and State Senators and let them know how important public transportation is to you. You can find out who your state senator or representative and how to contact him here. (We will be posting sample letters that you can use in whole or part soon.) Or join with your friends and a member of PTC to set up a meeting with your local State Representative and Senator. Contact us if you want help setting up such a meeting.

  • Reach out to your friends and neighbors and tell them about the PTC and our effort to secure dedicated funding for public transit. Forward their information to us or encourage them to sign up for our E-newsletters here.
