Vigil to Save Public Transit

Friday, November 19, 2004

10:00 am until ?

Office of Speaker of the House John Perzel

7518 Frankford Avenue

Take the Market-Frankford El to Frankford Terminal, walk up to Shelmire Avenue

The General Assembly intends to bring its current session to an end sometime tomorrow. Will they give SEPTA and the other transit agencies enough funding to avoid devastating cutbacks and fare increases? Will we get the dedicated funding we need to create the kind of transit system we need in Philadelphia and throughout the Commonwealth? Right now, we have idea.

We do know,  however, that our State Senators and Representatives need to hear our voice, demanding new funds for public transportation.  They need to hear how important public transportation is to our economy, to residential development, to our low-income citizens,  to our children and seniors, to the wise use of land, and to the control of pollution.

Please join us as we conduct a vigil for public transportation. Let one of the key leaders of the General Assembly, and through him, all of its members, know how important it is to solve the transit funding crisis before this legislative session ends.

You can find your state senator and state representative at this website: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/find.cfm. If you have not yet done so, please contact them today.
